The full moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox is known as the Harvest Moon and this year’s one is unusual as it’s normally the September one, not October. The name Harvest Moon not surprisingly comes on account of it being the full moon at harvest time. As full moons rise just after sunset, assuming fair weather the moon’s light would allow farm workers to work later bringing in the crops.
It’s shining beautifully right now and it also lends it’s name to one of our favourite pieces of Americana by Neil Young. Enjoy them both!
